Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about NACTE, accreditation, Focal Persons, Evaluators, and fees.

About NACTE

The National Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (NACTE) is the body mandated by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan to accredit teacher education programs offered by public and private sector universities and institutions across Pakistan.

NACTE was established in December 2006 and became operational via Gazette Notification in 2007.

NACTE operates under the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan.

To promote excellence in teacher education through evidence-based accreditation, ensuring the quality of programs that prepare professionally competent teachers.

Public and private sector universities, colleges, and teacher education institutions offering teacher education degree programmes anywhere in Pakistan.

Accreditation Process

Formal Accreditation (for existing programs) and Zero Accreditation (for new programs about to launch).

W (highest recognition), X (excellent standard), Y (good standard), and Z (entry level) — see the Award Levels page for full criteria.

Register as a Focal Person, submit the application with the required fee, upload the required documents, NACTE conducts a desk review, an evaluator team conducts a site visit, then the Council makes the final accreditation decision.

Timelines vary by institution and program; institutions should prepare for the accreditation visit within four months of submitting a formal application. Contact NACTE directly for a case-specific estimate.

Open/Virtual mode accreditation applies a different fee structure (scaled to enrolled student cohorts) and only the university's main campus is visited, with accreditation extending to sub-campuses offering the same program — see the Fee Structure page for details.

Institutional and program documentation as specified in NACTE's accreditation standards and document templates — see the Documents page for the current template package.

For Focal Persons

A Focal Person is an institute's official representative for all NACTE accreditation matters — the point of contact between the institution and NACTE throughout the process.

Complete the Focal Person Registration form with your personal, institute, and Head of Department information.

NACTE reviews the application, and the Focal Person is contacted via the email provided once verification is complete.

No — each Focal Person registration requires a unique email address; duplicate registrations are rejected.

Use the Check Registration Status page with the reference number (format FP-0001) you received after submitting your application.

For Evaluators

A subject-matter expert who assesses teacher education programs during accreditation site visits, evaluating institutions against NACTE's accreditation standards.

Review the eligibility criteria and registration process on the Become an Evaluator page, then submit your application with the registration fee.

The public Evaluators Directory lists name, designation, institution, province, and qualification only — contact details are never published publicly.

Yes — evaluator registration is renewed every three years for a renewal fee (see Fees & Payments below).
